THE WORLD IS YOUR DANCEFLOOR

The assignment for this final project was to come up with a concept that utilized at least three Adobe softwares on the computer in order to create a compelling piece of artwork. For my project in particular, I used a personal passion of mine to express a phrase that can be used by any individual. Through the use of symbolism and vibrant colors, my phrase “The World is Your Dancefloor” made a bold statement and hopefully the viewer can resonate with it as well.
For this project, I really wanted to push myself in my artistic abilities. In the beginning of this assignment, I was originally just going to do one poster that I had talked about in my proposal. However, as time went on, I began to love sitting and playing around with Photoshop and ultimately came out with two more posters, resulting in three final posters. I wanted to further my knowledge of every Adobe software, given the first time I used these applications was in August. I have learned that the best way to learn is to sit down and just play trial and error with everything. I have clicked so many buttons over the course of two weeks and I feel like I know these softwares like the back of my hand now (I definitely do not, though). In my proposal, I stated that my biggest goal was to create a piece that was positive for the viewer. As an artist, it is very important to me that my viewers always see the happy ending within my work. Life can be hard and disappointing, art should not live to that same standard. I believe that I reachced my goals and then some, which I am very proud to state. In the future, I will implement these goals into my artwork.
I knew that many people would take this assignment prompt and most likely assign in to a real life campaign such as a company, website, or branding form. These are all great ideas, but honestly this thought overwhelmed me. I felt that I was not qualified to create a campaign in this way. Furthermore, I feel as if I am much more experienced in composites than anything else. As a solution to this, I decided to turn my composites into a poster campaign and it was tremendously successful. In the future, I plan to challenge myself to do something that scares me such as a corporate campaign. Maybe just not diminish my own work first, next time. I am rather glad that I focused on composites rather than a traditional campaign for this project.
Throughout this final, I have learned so much about myself and art. I never realized how much feeling can be put into a piece of artwork. It became obvious to me that art is not a ‘one-size fits all’–a subconscious belief that I have carried around with me. I can make art the way I want and there will always be one person that appreciates it, even if that one person is me. As for Adobe, I am much more experienced with these platforms than I was before. There is still plenty of tips and tricks for me to learn, however, I think my August self would be pretty proud of how far we have come as a designer, artist, student, and thinker. Once I allow myself to create anything and everything, the ideas were endless. Nowadays, I think of an idea and I can not think of anything else unless I create it. The biggest lesson I have learned through this project, is take that chance and don’t ever compare. My ideas do not have to be like everyone elses. In fact, they should not be and that is my power. I have lots of friends in this class and they are all very talented in their own ways. Their talent does not limit mine and vice versa. I am very thankful for this project and all that it has taught me for not only the class room, but for the real world as well.
